AFRICA

Betty Atai was part of Cityside Church while she was in Sydney completing her Medical Degree. She returned to Uganda to make a difference. Here is part of a recent letter from Dr. Betty Atai in Uganda Africa regarding a clinic that Shirelive provided $2,500 for:

I would like to heartily thank you and the entire Shirelive Community for the support they extended for the people of Kachumbala. We held the clinic on the 21st and 22nd of December and had a wonderful time. On day 1 of the clinic, 100 adults and 30 children were treated and received mosquito nets to prevent malaria which was rampant at the time (rainy season). On day 2,178 adults and 76 children were treated. The most common ailments were malaria, respiratory infections and skin infection. Malnutrition is a growing problem because of adverse weather conditions in this part of the country. Fortunately we had enough medicine for everyone including therapeutic feeds for the severely malnourished children and adults.

In our society these are all preventable diseases. It’s amazing how far $2,500 can go! From our bounty, those less fortunate have been blessed.

JAPAN

The new Jesus Lifehouse church plant in Sendai, with a core group of 20 believers is seeing someone saved every week. They meet in homes, and during the week Starbucks is a popular place to connect with new acquaintances. There are also street outreaches twice a week. Shirelive is sending a young adults music and ministry trek team to Japan in July. Another need for this new church plant would be for one or two young Aussies to give a Gap year to serve in Sendai. In a recent Shirelive service we prayed for the Sendai church plant. That very day they saw 6 new converts- a record for Sendai. Prayer works! In Rod Plummer’s words, “The city is open to us… we just need to grasp it! Shirelive sends monthly support for Rod and Viv Plummer and the work of Jesus Lifehouse.
