Philippines Flood Relief through ACC

Manila, the Philippine’s, saw its heaviest rain in more than four decades, when 40cm of water fell on the city within 12 hours in September 2009. Tropical Storm ‘Ketsana’ hit the Philippines with winds of up to 100 km an hour. Over 1.8 million people were affected by this natural disaster.

ACC Flood Response

ACCWM fieldworkers in Manila, Mark (and Christine) Pedder, said that water is still 8 metres deep in the worst affected areas. People were left without water, food and power. ACCWR responded quickly with the ACCWR Re-establishment program. The Pedders were a pivotal part in implementing the Reestablishment Program assisting 100 families selected on a crisis-basis in Fairview, Manila immediately after the floods. Each family received items to get them back on their feet including a 50kg sack of rice, weekly finance for basic food as well as household goods. The relief that each family received inn many instances, amounted to more than 3 months income.

Indonesia Earthquake Relief though ACC

The 2009 West Java earthquake was a 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in September 2, 2009 in Indonesia, killing at least 79 people, injuring over 1,250, and displacing over 210,000.

ACC Earthquake Response

One of the major relief programs through ACCWR following the earthquake was providing 125 families with mattresses, kerosene stoves, clothes and hygiene items in the Village Baling-Baling-Korong Palembayan.
